Class XXI Graduation
The fifty members of Leadership North Carolina Class XXI celebrated completion of the LNC program at a May graduation and awards ceremony. During the course of the LNC program, these passionate and engaged leaders visited six different North Carolina cities to learn about government, health and human services, economic development, education, and the environment in North Carolina. The knowledge they gained and the friendships and connections they established promise to have an impact on North Carolina for years to come.
LNC board chair Tony Zeiss, president of Central Piedmont Community College, presided over the May 8, 2014, ceremony in the Old House Chamber of the North Carolina State Capitol. The event was attended by friends, family, and colleagues of the graduates as well as LNC board members and alumni.
Chosen by their peers, Ken Burton of Bank of America shared an inspiring call to action as the Class XXI graduation speaker and Jessica Graham of Belk, Inc., was awarded the Class XXI Stanley Frank Class Award in honor of her commitment to all aspects of the LNC program and her enthusiastic engagement in her community and beyond.
The members of the Class XXI William Garrett Fund committee announced their impressive class gift of $40,080 to support LNC’s scholarship fund. Class XXI was able to reach its ambitious fundraising goal in part through the generous grant of $10,000 from Belk Inc.
During the ceremony LNC’s board, staff, and the members of Class XXI shared their heartfelt appreciation for UNC Wilmington’s Jenni Harris and her commitment to her role as Class XXI program chair. The group also welcomed Elaine Loyack of Triangle Air Awareness as incoming program chair for Class XXII and Lou Jurkowski as LNC’s incoming board chair.
LNC’s leadership also expressed thanks to the many sponsors that make the LNC program possible. A list of LNC’s sponsors can be found here.
