LNC Class XX Update
Leadership North Carolina Class XX has reached the halfway point in their program year. Since October’s Orientation in Boone participants have come together for sessions on Government in Raleigh and on Economic Development in Hickory.
Highlights of the Raleigh Government session included presentations about all levels of government, a legislative simulation, a tour of the women’s prison, an overview of North Carolina politics, a rousing game of Budgetopolis, and an inspiring Leadership Profile presentation by retired Raleigh police chief Harry Dolan.
In Hickory, the group heard about economic and workforce trends, differences across the state’s regions, factors that attract businesses to an area, and the critical role played by community colleges in workforce development. They participated in an engaging simulation called “The Hat Factory” and used some of their spare time to prepare goody bags as part of the session’s Red Thread Project.
Several members of Class XX gathered in Charlotte for an optional meeting in January. They used their time to brainstorm how best to turn the knowledge they are acquiring through LNC into action. The will present the initiatives they identified to the full class at the February Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Health and Human Services session in Concord.
