Recap of the 8th Annual LNC Forum

Last Thursday LNC convened the 8th Annual LNC Forum, presented by Novant Health, at the CPCC Harris Conference Center in Charlotte. Attendees heard a morning keynote address entitled “Leadership in Healthcare” from Dr. Thomas Zweng, executive vice president and chief medical officer with Novant Health.  Throughout the rest of the day participants learned about emerging trends and topics critical to the state through a variety of breakout sessions.

In keeping with the LNC Forum’s theme of turning knowledge into action, Dr. Tony Zeiss of CPCC (LNC Class I) and Kenston Griffin of Dream Builders Communication, Inc. (LNC Class XIX) facilitated a discussion entitled “Leading by Doing: Strategies to Take Action.”  Brenda Berg of BEST NC (LNC Class XXII) shared the realities facing the education system in North Carolina, with practical steps on ways leaders can engage.  Renee Hutcheson, AIA of NCDENR, and Roger Leeson, AIA of LaBella Associates, discussed the factors impacting LEED design and energy efficiency in sustainable design.  Ben Kinney of Business North Carolina moderated a panel entitled “Emerging Energy Technologies and Opportunities,” with Zak Kuchar and Mike Rowand of Duke Energy partnering with Jay Nemeth of North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives to share timely information on that topic.

The five content areas of the LNC program (economic development, education, environment, government, and health and human services) were woven throughout all of the day’s presentations, offering an update on these topics for alumni and a taste of the core program for attendees new to Leadership North Carolina.

A special thanks to this year’s LNC Forum presenting sponsor, Novant Health, and the generous contributions from our LNC Forum sponsors, speakers, and members of the LNC Forum planning committee.

Save the date and make plans to join us in the Triangle for the 9th Annual LNC Forum scheduled for Friday, January 29, 2016.
