Notes on Attire

Attire for all days is business casual. We work hard to have a comfortable room temperature in all meeting locations, but “comfortable” is different for everyone.  We recommend layers or bringing a light sweater or jacket just in case.

Meals and Snacks

A light breakfast will be provided for those who RSVP through the attendance survey.  Morning and afternoon snacks, lunch, and beverages will be provided each day.

Session Goals

  1. Define and explore the concept of race and the historical context of race relations in North Carolina and the United States.
  2. Explore systems and race in the United States and North Carolina through the context of the six pillars of the LNC Core Program (government, education, inclusive leadership, economic development, health and human services, and the environment).
  3. Build understanding of the intersectionality of social identity and recognition of power dynamics in society and examine impacts of discrimination.
  4. Build awareness of how systems affect members of society, particularly those from historically marginalized groups, in different ways,
  5. Offer actionable steps to confront racism and discrimination and build understanding across systems and cultures to drive effective change and build inclusive leadership.
