Sabrina Bengel

Currently, Sabrina serves as the Mayor Pro-Tem and Alderman for Ward One for the City of New Bern and is the Managing Partner of The Birthplace of Pepsi.  She is also serving as the Chairman of the Craven County Tourism Development Authority, Board member of Swiss Bear Downtown Development Corporation.  She serves on the New Bern Public Library Board and has previously served on the Boards of the Craven Community College Foundation, New Bern Chamber of Commerce, Craven Arts Council, Carolina East Medical Center Foundation, and chaired the New Bern Firemen’s Museum Board of Directors for many years.

Passionate about her alma mater, East Carolina University, she has served as Chairman of both the Alumni Association as well as the Board of Visitors. Statewide she has served on the North Carolina Travel & Tourism Board and currently serves on the UNC TV Board of Trustees and is a Commissioner on the Highway 17/64 Association.

Sabrina has been the recipient of Entrepreneur of the Year by the New Bern Chamber of Commerce, Woman of Achievement by the NC Federation of Women’s Club, East Carolina University Distinguished Service Award, East Carolina University Incredible Woman, Craven Community College Fabric Award and in 2016 The Order of the Long Leaf Pine presented by Governor Pat McCrory.

Originally from Harrison, New York, Sabrina attended East Carolina University, where she met her husband, Steve, to whom she has been married for 39 years.  They live in New Bern together and own a restaurant in downtown called Bakers Kitchen.  They have two grown children – Buddy Bengel, LNC Class XXII, and Becky Bengel Estry, along with two grandchildren.
